Product Dimensions

I have several items and the business views these items according to a number of attributes linked to the item:
- Product category
- Product source (manufactured, purchased, transferred)
- Brand
- Flavour
- Packing Group

The Packing Group is a combination of attributes which defines the size of a pack (bottle size, cap type, things like that). There is never a set hierarchy as to how these are viewed. I've thought about modelling items as:
1. Create a star-schema dimension which has Product category then Product, and have a bunch of attributes hanging off Product
2. Create virtual dimensions based on these attributes

However, this seems problematic to me as the Packing Group has its own attributes. I then consider I might need a "physical" star-schema dimension for each of the above classifications. Is this the right way to go? Can any body suggest a better way or point me to some examples? I'm running AS 2000.

Upgrade to 2005 Smile

The last time I did this in AS 2000, I was representing customer demographics - race, gender, age range, income range, etc), I created a physical dimension table in my star to represent each unique combination of attributes. then I created an AS dimension for each attribute. Performance was pretty poor.

ProClarity: Is there any way we can use tables as sources of ProClarity views instead of cubes?

Is there any way we can use tables as sources of ProClarity views instead of cubes?

Hello! It is not possible. ProClarity is a SSAS-tool only.

You must build a cube in order to use ProClarity.

Proclarity analytic Views without using sharepoint

Hi All,

May I know there is any way to show the proclarity analytic views or reports in a web portal without using sharepoint server?

If there is no way, can u brief me how to create proclarity analytic views and how to show those views in web portal ( browser) by using sharepoint server?

What kind and what version of SSAS , proclarity , and Sharepoint do I need to use?

I have no experience in BI tools and Data Warehouse.

I am very interested in that field.

Moe Min

Hello! In ProClarity Analytics 6.3 you have both the windows client(Professional), the thin webb client(Analytics Server) and a dashboard server. The two servers do not need Sharepoint, only IIS6.

Hi..
I'm getting the following error when data is selected from views using
dynamic sql. Running SQL Server 2000 with SP3.
Process 54 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_A
CCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
Thanks.
Search KB and make sure you are on current service pack. If problem persists, open a case with MS
